Grace Lavery

Bio

Grace Lavery is Associate Professor in the Department of English at UC Berkeley, where she specializes in Victorian literature and culture, trans feminist studies, and contemporary popular cultures. Her book Quaint, Exquisite: Victorian Aesthetics and the Idea of Japan was published in 2019 by Princeton University Press, and she has articles published and forthcoming in ELHNovel: A Forum on FictionModernism/modernityComparative Literature StudiesDifferences, and Critical Inquiry. She is currently writing two books: one on the forms of closure specific to the sitcom genre; the other on nineteenth- and twentieth-century ideas about technique and skill.
